Charity
Wandele naor Schandele is committed to the fight against cancer. Every year, a different local charity is the focus of this mission. This year, Wandele naor Schandele will be focusing its efforts on a special goal: the Shared Care Centre for paediatric oncology in the VieCuri Medisch Centrum hospital in Venlo.Â

VR glasses for children with cancer
All children affected by cancer in the Netherlands are treated at the Princess Máxima Center (PMC). The Princess Máxima Center for Paediatric Oncology works closely with a number of paediatric departments in various hospitals to enable care close to home. This is called Shared Care. VieCuri Medisch Centrum is a Shared Care Centre.
Treatment of children with cancer is intensive and can be a process of weeks to years. Fortunately, part of the treatment, such as certain chemotherapy treatment, blood transfusions and treatment of fever, can be given closer to home in the Shared Care Centre at VieCuri Medisch Centrum.
VieCuri Medisch Centrum wants to make VR glasses available to provide these vulnerable young patients with a welcome distraction during treatment and help reduce stress, pain and anxiety. These VR glasses allow children to play games, watch videos and do relaxation exercises. It has been scientifically proven that children experience less pain and anxiety during treatment if they wear VR glasses. The glasses can be purchased thanks to the support of Wandelen naor Schandele.
